Bio
Megan Scarborough-Eckel, is a second-generation Thai-American, born and raised in Indio, California, where she is currently serving her second term as a Community Services Commissioner. In January 2021, she became the first Thai woman, and the first African-American woman, to serve as the City of Indio’s Chairperson for the Community Services Commission.
She is also currently the Clerk of the Board for the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, which is nearly a one hundred year old government organization, with a mission of protecting public health by providing effective and environmentally sound vector control, and vector-borne disease prevention programs.
Her passion for service began while studying Political Science and Music at UCLA, where she was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma Academic Honor Societies, which help the Los Angeles community through their beach and park cleanups, tutoring underprivileged children, and various recycling events. Upon graduation, she returned to her hometown to work on several political campaigns, including Congressman Raul Ruiz, MD of California’s 25th Congressional District (formerly the 36th Congressional District) and City of Indio Councilmember, Waymond Fermon’s.
